Day trip to Victor

Who would have thought that a day trip to Victor could be so much fun? I'm sure it had everything to do with the group of friends that I day-tripped with.
Let's see... the day sort of went like this...
We were to meet at 9am on the other side of town at Yellek's place... never going to happen!! ... not the 9am and not the travelling in the opposite direction from Victor for 30 minutes. It was all sorted and Yellek annd auPrincess met at mine & sharlock's place at the most reasonable time of 11am, (you know we weren't ready then either). We all sat around and checked out previous holiday snaps. Well, actually, the visitors sat around looking at photos while those who lived in the house and were given extra time to get ready, were, dare I say, still getting ready. We were eventually ready to go so we all got into Yellek's car and off we went.
Yellek's driving couldn't have been too bad because we girls took no notice... that's always a good sign. Can't say how long it took to get there because the car conversation was so good that time just seem to fly by. When we arrived in Victor the next trick was to find a car park. Yellek had more than his fair share of back and side seat drivers all with an opinion about where to park. One thing he learnt that day was that women are always right, and when there's women in the car, the car is driven by committee.
The walk across the bridge to Granite Island was cold and windy. Again the conversation was interesting enough to take our minds off the smell of horse poop and the feeling of cold wind on our faces. The climb up and around the island was a pleasant walk coupled with conversation about the ideal man. I can't say that we reached any agreements on that one, but the conversation was still fun. Poor Yellek, surrounded by women in search of a good man. mmmm..... most men wish they could be so lucky!!
The walk to the island was followed by coffee and more conversation... well, with three women on the trip there was bound to be lots of talking.
We then all jumped back into the car and headed to the bluff for a bit of a look at the surrounding scenery. It started to rain so we sat in the car and looked out over the water. About an hour of conversation later we moved on to another spot and again sat in the car looking out at the water. We did this a third time and then decided that it was time to head home.
After getting lost for a while, we eventually found the right road home. We noticed the driving on the way home... never a good sign. There was not as much conversation on the drive home... I think we girls were all trying to keep our lunch down. Yellek finally figured out that the look on auPrincess's face was not a smile but a grimace and that none of us actually looked very good a pale shade of grey, and he slowed down. We stopped for a sugar hit to calm the car sick feeling and for Yellek to walk off the fatigue and then we finally reached home.
Pizza for dinner and Princess Bride for entertainment.
A good day had by all !!
Thanks for a great day, guys. We'll have to do it again soon.

Who needs Friends?

I love to travel ... but most importantly, I love to travel with my best friend.
I would still have stood silently in awe when I looked up at the Berlin wall if I had been there on my own, but to share that moment with my best friend made it all the more memorable. Eating the world's biggest schnitzel in a restaurant in Vienna (with a dog sleeping under the table at our feet whilst we ate) was something that I was lucky enough to be able to share with my friend. The ride on the hydrofoil on the Danube from Vienna to Budapest would not have been nearly as much fun alone. The smallest room in the world would have been cosier, but not nearly as funny, if I'd stayed there alone in Budapest. Standing in front of the Colosseum in Rome and seeing the Astrological Clock in Prague would still have been awesome on my own, but I would have missed my friend's tears of awe. Riding in a water taxi on the Grand Canal in Venice, window shopping on the Ponte Vecchio, checking out the ninja turtles at the Uffizi Gallery (you know... Michelangelo, Raphael etc..), staring up at the ceiling of the the Sistine Chapel, doing a 'time-challenge visit' to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, riding the lift to the top of the Eiffel Tower, riding the rollercoasters at EuroDisney and seeing 'Cats' on the West End only mean so much to me because I got to share these experiences with my best friend.

Places I've been in the world

A closer look at my European travels

Shopping at the Jersey Gardens outlet store in New Jersey, ( and I mean shopping), riding the Staten Island ferry, going to the top of the Empire State Building and doing the city bus tour over and over (and over and over) again would not have meant so much to me if I'd done it alone. Flying out of New York, seeing the twin towers of the World Trade Centre and the Statue of Liberty meant so much to me because my best friend had enjoyed New York city as much as I had.
But waking up the next morning and finding out that two planes had crashed into the twin towers of The World Trade centre in New York is something I will never forget. I will also never forget how my friend and I leaned on each other (and God) during that time. There is nothing like having your best friend around at a time of world crisis.
Have you ever thought that people come into your life at just the right time? Is it possible that God has ordained people just to be your friend? I believe that my best friend and I were destined to meet, and I am a better person for knowing her.
Look around... are you one of the lucky one's who God has given a best friend?
If you are, make sure you let them know that they are appreciated.
